The Wash-Linn Mar shootout was one of the most exciting high school football regular season games I have ever covered.  What made it special was the rabid fans on both sides of the field.  The standing room only crowd was on the edge of their seat on every momentum swing (Which seemed like every other play).

This game had it all great coaching, big time athletes, 950 yards of offense and no turnovers.  It looked like Wash was going to blow the game open jumping out to a 14-nothing lead. Linn-Mar used a trick play to help them get back in the game.   Down 21-7 Jer Garman hit Aaron Hunter on the half back pass for big yardage to spark the comeback.  I watched the Lions work on that play in practice and promised Coach Forsyth I wouldn’t show it on television before the game.

The Lions showed some guts late leading 41-38 and going for it on fourth and one at it’s own 29, with 1:50 to play.  A big line surge and 6″6 quarterback Will Roth sealed the deal with the first down for the 41-38 win. After the game Coach Forsyth took a dip in Indian Creek with the entire team watching.

If these two teams meet again in the playoffs lookout!  (It might be a 51-48 game).  The 6′6 Roth to 6′6 Josh Montague combo and running back Jer Garman are tough to stop.  Wash QB Shay Guttman is the most underrated player in the state (he can beat you with his arm or his legs).   Warriors All-State back  Andre Dawson looked like a man among boys rushing  for 230 yards.  I think both teams will be extremely dangerous in the playoffs and I wouldn’t want to play either one.
